  • Addie Joss Benefit 1911

    Early in the 1911 season Addie Joss, a star pitcher for the Naps (forerunner to the Indians), died from tubercular meningitis. The Cleveland players and players from around the American League got together at League Park on July 24, 1911 to play a game to benefit Joss' family.

    In the early part of the 1900's Amateur Baseball drew enormous crowds to Brookside Park in Cleveland. Several times the crowds were estimated at over 100,000.
