TRIBE-LOGOS-WHITEAfter completing the four game sweep of Chicago yesterday, the Cleveland Indians have a record of sixty wins and forty eight  loses.  The one hundred eight games played means that exactly two thirds of the 2013 season has been played.

The Tribe’s Starting Rotation, the major question mark coming into the 2013 season, has more than surprised everyone in baseball, Tribe fans, and if the truth be told the Indians organization. After two thirds of the games have been played the regular Starting Rotation of Justin Masterson, Corey Kluber, Zach McAllister, Scott Kazmir and Ubaldo Jimenez has a combined record of 39 win and 27 loses with a combined ERA of 3.53

Only the most ardent Tribe supporters saw Justin Masterson becoming an “Ace,” and an American League All Star, with a 13-7 record to go with a 3.33 ERA after last year.  Masterson is also among the league leaders in every meaningful pitching stat.

Few, if any, in baseball saw Corey Kluber with a 7-5 record and a 3.77 ERA after two thirds of the season had been played, especially when Kluber was not in the suspect rotation at the start of the season.  Not many had Zach McAllister with an ERA of 3.48 either.

After being out of MLB for almost 2 years,  no one saw Scott Kazmir with a 6-4 record and an ERA of 4.11 at this point in the season.

I doubt that many had Ubaldo Jimenez with an 8-5 record and an ERA of 4.17 after two thirds of the 2013 scheduled had been played.

2013 ROTATION 500

The pitching stats for the Tribe’s regular Starting  Rotation are not  just a fluke or a hot streak with two thirds of the season having been played. Every pitcher in the regular Starting Rotation has developed and/or improved his game as the season has progressed.  Tribe pitching coach Mickey Callaway, Manager Terry “Tito” Francona and the entire coaching staff deserve some credit for the success of the regular Starting Rotation, they have done a great job of “coaching them up.”  However, the majority of the credit must go to Justin Masterson, Corey Kluber, Zach McAllister, Scott Kazmir, and Ubaldo Jimenez for all “stepping it up.”  They have become one of the best Starting Rotations in the American League.

That the 2013 Cleveland Indians Starting Rotation will only get better over the final one third of the season is cause for excitement, and reason to believe that the Tribe will, at the very least, be in contention for a Post Season spot right to the very end of the 2013 season.   I believe they will carry the Tribe to a Post Season berth.
